The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, expressed the government’s
determination to start an audit for the administration of the money
spent so far from the budget, a process that will be held by one of the
four biggest international audit companies.
In a high rank seminar, “Reinforcing Connections of Southeastern Europe”, organized by Bank of Albania, Rama declared that the audit will serve the purpose of making a complete understanding where the economic situation stands in our country, and the government’s performance with all public and private funds.
“We are determined to be loyal to this commitment and start the audit of our money administration system as soon as possible, and also for the spending in all sectors. An audit that is made by four large audit companies that we hope will bring a real image of our economy and the government’s relations to the public and private funds”, Rama declared.
Another engagement of the new government is to liberate the biggest taxpayers from tax control and enable a self-control through their own audit.
“We want to liberate our biggest businessmen from tax control, at least 1000 of them who are the biggest tax payers. We don’t want to control large businesses, but we want them to control their companies on their own, through an audit that will be led by four large companies”, Rama declared.
For the Prime Minister, we are in a situation in which the economy has been divided in economies that interest to the state, such as those included in the budget, and economies of the private sector, to which the government owes around 400 million in total.
“We cannot continue with the stalemate created by the debts that the government owes to the private sector. This debt has plunged the entire economy in this stalemate, and has withheld the influencing power of banks from affecting the economy, due to the accumulation of this debt chain. We are preparing to pay it as soon as possible”, Rama declared.
On the same line with Prime Minister Rama, the head of the International Monetary Fund in Albania, Nadee Ilahi, says that the documentation of this debt as part of the national debt is the first important step, with measures that need to be taken for reducing it.
“An important issue mentioned by the Prime Minister lately is the undocumented debt, which needs to be documented. The data should go to the private sector after it becomes part of the national debt, where it belongs. Then we need a decision about lowering the debt level”, Ilahi declared.
Another concern expressed by the International Monetary Fund in Albania is the deterioration of the tax collection, for which the government needs to take measures.
