Food Quality Authority establishes auto-inspection

The Director of Risk Evaluation and Communication at the National Food Inspection Authority, Rezart Kthupi, explains that the auto control system is more efficient than the current quality inspection system.

“We must pass from the inspection of all businesses to the auto control procedures that all businesses will apply. The auto control system is obligatory for every business operator in Albania, through which they will firstly inspect themselves, and allow us to inspect their work in details. All businesses that produce food items, starting from cheese, soft beverages and fermented goods should have their own auto control system, on base of which they inspect the processes and the sensitive points of the process that could create problems for the products”, Kthupi declared.

The director explains that the Albanian products will be guaranteed for the consumer just as the ISO certified products, based on some required parameters that makes the companies themselves to inspect and monitor their production’s quality.

But what must business operators do for improving the auto control system, which will include bars, restaurants and common producers?

“The businesses must make an analysis for setting up the auto control system, starting from the most dangerous aspects of the process. A cheese dairy, for example, must apply the inspections in the first moments, when they receive the milk, and then the fermentation process for making cheese. All these processes have their own high-risk points of contamination. If these points are checked in a procedural and consistent way, it is guaranteed that there will be no problems that could affect the final product. It is for the own good of the business operator, a way for giving him the opportunity to reduce the cost”, Kthupi declared.

The establishment of the auto control system is provided by the law for consumer protection. When not respected, the fines could vary from 1 to 3 million ALL.
