Food OMGs, health consequences

After the ‘90s, Albania was immediately exposed from bio food to
genetically modified products, for which are used hormones, pesticides
and different chemicals which, if uncontrolled, could bring consequences
at the human body. Gynecologists say that one of the consequences is
the earlier menstruation period for girls, now at 12.

The Director of “Koco Glozheni” maternity, Rubena Moisiu says that hormone injections do affect young girls’ health. Another factor is the warmer climate that has recently changed. Although not considered an illness, earlier menstruations are accompanied by several risks, since they could cause earlier sexual maturity.

Some years ago it was unconceivable for Albanian girls to have sexual intercourses at 14 or 16 years of age; today this is happening even earlier.

“It causes sexual maturity to be reached in a younger age, and that could bring irresponsible sexual behavior that could endanger the future of a girl”, Moisiu adds.

According to Moisiu, another risk is uterus and ovaries cancer. On the other hand, earlier sexual maturity adds possibilities for earlier menopause.

Teuta Pipa, doctor at a high school in the Albanian capital, says that the age when girls start sexual life has essentially decreased. She also speaks about the case of a pregnant high school student.

“High school students have greater interest for accumulating acknowledge and having sexual intercourse. Only a few days ago we had a 16 old pregnant girl”, Pipa says.

According to Pipa, although young people today do go for consults, the greatest role must be played by their families.
