
Balkan countries high representatives gathered today in Austria to take part in the Vienna Summit, a second step after the Berlin initiative, organized under the tutelage of Austrian and German Chancellors, Faymann and Merkel. Infrastructure and political development, as well as migration and war against extremism will be the main topics of this summit.
The event started in the premises of the Austrian Foreign Ministry, where all foreign ministers of the Balkans discussed bilateral disagreements in the Western Balkans and path towards EU membership.
Foreign Minister Ditmir Bushati, explains for Top Channel main goals of this initiative. “Debated was based upon a study by international experts analyzing open matters between the countries of the region or between them and other EU countries that have impacted Western Balkans nations in their common integration goal”, Bushati said, adding that an agreement to not obstruct each other in the EU membership process during the next year’s summit, to be held in Paris.
Nish – Prishtinë – Durrës highway project will be the opening topic of the second day of the summit, where Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama, his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vucic, European Investments Bank commissioner Hoyer, EU commissioner Hahn and president of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Chakrabati will attend.
“Both Prime Ministers will approve the regional interconnection map and extension of EU infrastructure in the region”, Bushati explains. “They will also sign agreements in terms of economy matters, youth, a joint initiative by the two governments and set up the framework for the project implementation before the next summit”.
