Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Ancient city of Butrint is still one of the most visited tourist
destination. Compared to one year ago, the Butrint National Park has an
increased number of foreign visitors who come to Albania mostly from the
Greek island of Corfu.
After the recent archeological excavations made in Butrint and after the opening of some mosaics, the tourist season is expected to last until September.
“I come from Germany, Dusseldorf, and this is the first time that I visit Albania. I am happy to be here and the first place I visited was Butrint, a real marvel. I was really impressed by what I have seen and I would wish that the excavations continue in this ancient town. I would want to travel throughout the country, because Albania is an unknown country not only for me but for all Europeans”, a tourist says.
“I am from Dusseldorf too and I was very impressed by the ancient Roman and Greek civilizations of Butrint. This is a fantastic place. It is my first time in Albania, and I came from Saranda. I noticed that there are a lot of buildings under construction, which means that Albania is a country under construction”, another tourist says.
The number of tourists that visit Butrint goes to 800 each day, mainly foreigners. August is expected to have the peak of the season with the visits of the UNESCO protected sites.
