The Minister of Interior, Saimir Tahiri, guaranteed the EU Commissioner
for Migration and Interior Matters, Dimitris Avramopoulos, that Albania
is ready to help with the refugee crisis.
“Albania is ready to do its job and respect its responsibilities. No country can make it alone with this problem, but together we can. We share the convictions that more coordination is needed for this, keeping in mind all the steps that need to be taken, from the information exchange and to the solid structures for the welcoming of refugees. I expressed my concern regarding the necessity for a joint plan, so that we don’t have in Albania same scenes that we have seen elsewhere. We need to prepare for every situation. We have support from the commissioner, seeing this as an European issue, on which Albania will not be alone. Albania will be committed to face its responsibilities”, Tahiri said in a joint conference with Avramopoulos in Tirana.
The Commissioner said that there are no official data that Albania will be affected by the flux of Immigrants, but we need to be prepared for any eventuality and that the situation is being monitored on site.
Avramopoulos added that the Council of Europe will secure the necessary support, if requested, while Albania is receiving assistance through various instruments.
