Floods increase grocery prices

The heavy rains and floods have increased prices of many farming goods
in the market. Consumers complain of buying green salad to 250 ALL, as
never before.

“Prices are too high. Green salad and tomatoes are too high. Beets cost 180, and they used to be 70. Carrots have increased to 120, from 50-60”, says one of the consumers.

“I bought green salad, 250; three cucumbers, 20; tomato, 200”, another one complains.

Sellers also complain, saying that the high prices have made people buy less. On the other hand, they say that the price growth is related with the seasonal floods caused by the heavy rains, and which has put agriculture in difficulty.

“I’m selling this for 300. I bought it 280. My profit is only 20 ALL per kg. Same goes for squash, which I bought with 180 and I’m selling it with 200 ALL, for 20 ALL. Nothing remains for us. Prices are too high, and it is not our fault”, another saleswoman says.

“Green salad’s price has almost doubled, because there is not enough production”, another one says.

These prices refer to big green markets, where prices are even lower than in grocery stores.
