Floods in Durres, Kruja and Fier

Heavy rains have created a critical situation in Durres, especially in
suburban areas. The “Hasan Koci” school in Shkozet closed after many of
the classrooms were flooded.

The situation remains critical in Shkozet, where owners started a protest against local authorities.

“What is the government doing? They plead for votes and forget people who are flooded. This problem is constant”, one of the residents declared.

Protesters blocked the secondary road by not allowing vehicles to drive through, as they accuse the local and central governments of giving electoral promises and maintaining the drainage channels.

The Shkozet residents say they haven’t been compensated yet for the damages made in the past, although the assessments were completed. In the meanwhile, businesses and small houses are still flooded and situation is deteriorating even more.

Sources from the Durres Prefecture confirm that the Kruje District has at least 20 houses under water and dozens of others isolated.

Problems with Gjanica River in Fier

Dozens of houses have been flooded by the Gjanica River in Fier, while police had to intervene for saving a family that was isolated by the water.

Tirana-Elbasan, difficulties at Qafë-Krraba

Heavy snows have blocked the Tirana-Elbasan road in Qafe Kerraba. Police advises all drivers to use tire chains or use the longer road from Durres.

The Road Maintenance Directory has sent its workers to throw salt and other materials so that the road can stay open.

Gjirokaster-Tepelena road blocked

A landslide has blocked the Gjirokaster-Tepelena road, fortunately when no vehicle was there, while police warns that other areas are still in danger.

Four heavy vehicles are working to clear the road, while police announces that the road by the coastline is open and without problems.

One of the reasons, besides the heavy rains, is the narrowed river bed with the water reaching 50 cm after flooding many houses and small businesses.

The recent floods in this area have been considered as the worst in the last 20 years. The Municipality has always announced several projects that were supposed to resolve the situation, but residents are alarmed with every heavy rain.

Floods in Shkoder and Lezhe

There have been several floods in Lezhe and Shkoder, especially in Tale. The Shengjin Commune was able to intervene and bring the situation to normality.

The most difficult situation is in Barbullonje, Dajc, Blinisht and Zadrime. In Shkoder there are reported several floods, but not in inhabited areas.
