Narta is one of Albania’s most important lagoons. Several years after the hunting ban, many birds have returned to the area, from flamingos, pelicans, wild geese, etc, and are no longer migrating.
Many winter birds have increased in number. There are at least 6000 flamingos, the white heron, small heron, curly pelican, etc.
“There are 34 types of winter birds this year in Narta, thousands of individuals”, said Flroian Rustemi, specialist of protected waters.
Flamingos have now turned in permanent residents. According to specialists, the birds are no longer migrating.
