Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future After the media reported the damage made to the monument of the five Vig
Heroes in Shkoder, the Socialist Party MPs and National Liberation War
veterans visited the new place where this monument is currently staying,
after the Shkoder Municipality removed it from the centre. The
opposition MPs considered the lack of reaction and the damages as a
second violation of this monument.
“The reality that we are seeing today is shocking. The Five Vig Heroes stay silent and abandoned in the suburbs, in a corner where they were left after the first violation, with an absurd decision of the Municipal Council to remove them from the city centre”, declared the Socialist MP, Paulina Hoti.
But this is not the only monument that has been damaged intentionally, according to the opposition representatives, since the busts of many other martyrs are being destroyed.
“In Shkoder were damaged other monuments, such as the Partisan Fighter, at the Martyrs’ Cemetery; the busts of Qemal Stafa, Perlat Rexhepi, etc, without mentioning the memorial plates and different obelisks. Important monuments of our culture and history have been destroyed by a hidden hand and a diabolic mind, who want to remove all monuments from Shkoder together with its cultural and historical identity, damaging this way its historic memory”, Hoti declared.
The monument of the five Vig Heroes, in memory of Ahmet Haxhia, Naim Gjylbegu, Ndoc Mazi, Hydajet Lexha and Ndoc Deda was damaged by persons who cut parts for scrap. The place where the monument is placed has also the monuments of Migjeni, Luigj Gurakuqi, Pashko Vasa, Manush Alimani and many other patriots, has turned into a waste dump site.
