The first day of the political dialogue for the justice reform seems to
have gone well. The Democratic Party has withdrawn the stance of not
recognizing the justice system, as foreseen by the constitutional
amends. In exchange, there has been another big concession by the
majority.
First of all, this is about the Council of Justice Appointing, a structure that the police considered as key for the capturing of the system by the government. The democrats agreed to recognize it as a structure, while the socialists have agreed to recognize it as a structure. While the Socialists have withdrawn from the current formula of the composition.
This council has wide influence with the appointing of some leaders and members of the new justice institutions. The second agreement that was reached today is related to the National Bureau of Investigations. This is a structure created to fight corruption in higher levels.
Official sources say for Top Channel that the parties have agreed for the National Bureau of Investigations to depend from the Special Prosecution, which will have no dependency from the Prosecutor General.
The compromise was reached by placing this structure, one of the most important of the reform, under the dependency of the High Council of Prosecution. The meeting will discuss eight other issues raised by the Democratic Party.
