Financial help for KESH

The government was obliged to touch the Contingency Fund for helping the
Albanian Power Corporation to import electricity. The Minister of
Finances, Ridvan Bode, declared that this is the first obligatory
measure for guaranteeing the necessary supply.

“We are seeing the possibilities for a preliminary financing, now that we are continuing to import energy. The further necessary steps will be taken depending on the development of the hydro-energetic situation in our country”, Bode declared.

The reserve funds at the Council of Ministers, together with the contingency for preserving the deficit is less than 4.7 billion ALL for this year. This could guarantee the electric supply for the country only for a short time.

“The contingency is sufficient for two months of supply, with the current condition of insufficient water levels. The budget interventions can be made. The Parliament is the institution that authorizes the government for further operations”, Bode declared.

Another solution, if the hydro situation in the country will not be improved, might be the review of the state budget, with further cuts in public investments. If the drought will continue, the Corporation could demand more than 10 billion ALL from the state budget.
