“Fighting” over politically persecuted people

A different change that the government has proposed for the compensation
law has heated up the political debate between the government and the
opposition for this category.

The draft aims to compensate 400 former politically persecuted people, over 85 years of age, with more accelerated procedures than the rest.

“The amends that you brought will not be implemented as you might have implemented other previous decisions or laws, which are brought here only for demagogic reasons of the moment. We will give another opinion and will express ourselves in the session, after taking all data that we requested here”, declared the Socialist MP, Mimi Kodheli.

The Democratic MP, Flamur Noka, declared that before speaking about this law and this category, the minimum that the Socialists should do was giving a declaration for condemning the communist crimes against this persecuted and suffering category.

In 2007, the government made the first compensation law for the politically persecuted people and on that time it was calculated that the financial would mount to 50 billion ALL. Initially it was decided to conclude the payment in eight years, but today, after five years, the compensation is far from being implemented.

“We have clarified that it is a moral obligation to not lie to these people. If you think to compensate all of them, what they really deserve, they will have to lose”, declared the Socialist MP, Arben Manaj.

The opposition did not participate in the voting, because they believe that the law has no financial guarantee, and they require reducing the age for those who are compensated with faster procedures.

But the annual fund that the government has given for the compensation of the persecuted people is 1.7 billion ALL, and if the age will be reduced, the money will not suffice.

The former politically persecuted people have been a group historically connected with the right parties, but recently, the political attention on them has increased. The Socialist Party organized a meeting with the representatives of this category, while President Bamir Topi accused the Prime Minister of making demagogy for 20 years on the expenses of the people who have suffered from the communist regime.
