The Albanian Interior Minister designate, Sajmir Tahiri, held a meeting with his Italian homologue, Angelino Alfano.
Tahiri shared on his Facebook profile his best impressions of this meeting that he considered as very productive and a first cooperation bridge between the two countries.
“Excellent and inspiring meeting with the Italian Minister of Interior, Angelino Alfano. The Minister expressed his full support to the new government and the EU candidate status this fall, and for Albania’s EU integration path. Alfano was personally committed to support Albania in all EU structures, in his mutual meetings with the EU homologues and to support Albania in the next meeting of European Popular Parties”, Tahiri commented.
“I expressed our concern about the public safety in our country, the fight against the organized crime, against human traffic and narcotics, expressing my conviction that a safer Albania will immediately affect the regional security ad Italy itself. I also guaranteed him for the good will of Prime MInister Rama, of the Albanian government and the Interior MInistry for reconceiving war against organized crime and other mutual challenges, and to address them with maximal priority”, Tahiri added.
According to Tahiri, Minister Alfano expressed his readiness to support the State Police with professional expertise, logistic and infrastructure, by reinforcing the cooperation bridges and the Italian missions that aid the Albanian police today. We considered it as a mutual challenge to intensify the fight against traffic, with the goal to have Albania off the ‘countries under monitoring’ list by the US State Department”.
For Tahiri, this meeting is a first communication bridge with the Italian authorities, and warned a second meeting in September.
“We considered that it was necessary to have a second meeting in September, in order to review our mutual agreements in safety and cooperation, and to discuss a concrete working plan between the General Police Directors of both countries”, Tahiri concluded.
