The Fierze hydropower lake is frozen. The low temperatures and the cold
wind has covered the lake with a layer of ice, which continues for
hundreds of meters inside the lake.
The Albanian Power Corporation says that the freezing lake has not created problems in the turbines. The unusual situation was caused after several days of low temperatures, almost 20 degrees under Zero.
The town of Kukes is also facing difficulties due to the ice, by interrupting many activities, among them schools and kindergartens, while there is less movement on the street.
Dukagjini in emergency, corpse not buried
More than 5000 residents in 11 Dukagjin villages have been completely isolated and are seeking help for food and medicine.
The thick snow hasn’t allowed the residents to even bury the body of a dead person.
Heads of Communes say that some families are isolated to the point that they can only be fed with boiled corn.
The district of Diber has also had difficulties in Bulqize and Peshkopi, where roads are blocked by the snow or covered by ice, with teaching interrupted in all schools.
