Fier, clashes for the District

The political war for taking or keeping the Fier District Council has
degenerated to physical clashes that required the intervention of the police.
The meeting of the District Council was announced this Wednesday by the Prefect for the second time.
The District Councilors that were elected for the second time after the Democratic Party took under control some of the Municipal Councils were stopped from entering the room by a group of Socialist supporters.
The Court decided to cancel the Prefect’s order for holding the meeting, but it was interpreted in different ways not only by the Prefect, but also by the Chairman of the District Council. The prefect and some of the Councilors were inside the Prefecture premises.
“We declared that we will follow the court’s order. It is unfortunate that responsible persons and justice experts of the Socialist Party make a bad interpretation of this decision. The decision suspended only the announcement, not the meeting or the councilors’ right to choose their leading structures. This is a court decision”, declared the Prefect Bujar Hysa.
Police controlled the entrance for stopping the protesters gathered outside the building.
“Two measures have been taken: a suit submitted by the Prefect, in which he requires the suspension of Decision 34. The court suspended it and this means that until this case will be solved in court, no one has the right to undertake any initiative for assembling the Municipal Council: not the District Council, not the Prefect, because the process is under investigation and the institutions are obliged to respect the court decision. Here there are left and right winged people who have come to express their indignation towards the Prefect, who violates the law despite the fact that his duty is to protect it. He hasn’t recognized the court or any other institution”, declared Vangjel Ndreka, chairman of the District Council in Fier.
After a few hours of tensions, the location for the meeting of the new district was changed to a private hotel in Fier.
During this meeting, the current Socialist Chairman of the District Counsil is expected to be replaced by a representative of the majority.
