Farmer Mariglen Ziu from Samatica, Dimali, in southern Albania, in one of his tomato greenhouses has decided not to treat the plant with pesticides and insecticides.

New European techniques, according to Mariglen, ensure a quality production and without the remnants of dangerous poisons.

“To clear the name and the bad reputation that Albania has for the composition of pesticides in vegetables, I have decided to use this adhesive tape that guarantees a clean product. Why do I say the plant stays clean? This tape has a scent that attracts the insect and the insect sticks here and not to the plant therefore the plant is saved.

“Before we used to buy products that were labeled ‘chemical fertilizers’ but contained pesticides or insecticides that were very harmful. Many times our agricultural products were returned from export due to the percentage of these harmful substances. The farmer expects the six floors of his tomato plants to be filled with fruits, according to him bee pollination will increase the amount of production.

“Bees increase greenhouse production. Specifically, if the plant has 7 flowers, the bee will take all 7 flowers, while only 3 flowers will be fertilized by way of hormones. This way we will have organic production for the consumer “.

The use of hazardous chemicals in agricultural production is not always done by the farmer.

Many times farmers are deceived by importers of chemicals and the active ingredient that should fight plant diseases is not what is marked on the label.

For this reason, in order to save the agricultural production, the farmers are forced to spray the agricultural production several times a season with expired or illegal pesticides.
