The 17 year old Ardian Jupa was arrested some weeks ago over theft, and
this Monday he will be free, but no one will wait for him at the prison
door.
Everyone else leaving the prison walls would be happy, but Ardian doesn’t know what to do out there. His parents have seven children, Ardian is the first of them, and none of the family members met him while in prison.
“My parents don’t have money. They can come and visit me here only if they take debts”, the 17 year old says.
Social Worker Skerdi Shtini, at the minor’s reformation institution, says that the 17 year old will now return to his harsh reality.
“He will face now a difficult economic situation, and he has reasons to be worried. We are trying to make possible to accompany him to his home, because the parents have no money to come and get him”, Shtini declares.
We tried in all ways to contact their family, but they cannot come and take him. We appealed the government to create special policies for these children, until they are 18”, says Emin Cani, director of the minors institution.
“I am worried because I am poor. Poverty and the need for food obliged me to steal. But I won’t steal anymore, I will work”, Jupa says.
