Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Ndoc Faslia admitted that stimulants are used for a premature maturation of the vegetables in
Albania, but he emphasized that these stimulants must be used by
respecting the recommended doses.
“The stimulants have been used and are being used in Albania, but for the vegetables produced in greenhouses, during winter. The problem is that these stimulants must be used within the norms and standards that have been set. If this limit is crossed, there will be unwanted results”, Faslia declared.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture declared that the hormones and other stimulants are used only during winter. According to him, there are laws that control the usage of these stimulants, but the farmers themselves admit that the usage of these doses is not under control.
“I do not agree that it is out of control. We try hard to control them, but the final inspection is made on the market. We control where the market goods come from, we identify the problems and take measures”, Faslia declared.
The phenomenon that we are facing in this season with tomatoes and other productions, such as melon, water melon or cucumbers, which not only do not have flavor, but sometimes even smell like medicaments, has to do with the fact that the Albanian farmers have imported a series of seeds that are inconsistent with our climate conditions, the technology used by the farmers and the physiological stress of the plants during temperature changes.
The Deputy Minister says that the market and the seeds are under the control of the Agriculture Ministry, although Lushnje farmers and officials declared that the market is totally out of control.
