Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The driving licenses that several Fier citizens have illegally profited
after bribing the inspectors for 40.000 ALL will be valid until the
Prosecution will conclude the investigations against the eight persons
that were arrested for corruption, including directors of the
institution.
The surveillance showed that 50 people had paid money to receive the driving license without being tested. The Prosecution has seized their cases, but they don’t have the legal right to seize the driving licenses until the investigation will be over. The minimum time is at least one year, and until then, these drivers will still be free to drive, becoming a source of accidents.
The Ministry of Transports has not taken any measure after the arrests, although the situation might seem more alarming than it seems. The surveillance have been made only in the last three months, but the corruptive activity has started a long time ago.
This raises suspicions that many other undeserved driving licenses are still being used, but the Ministry of Transports has been only an observer.
50%-60% of the Albanian car crash victims die as result of the failure to respect the traffic rules. Besides the alarming figures each year, there have been no investigations or prosecutions against the people who have released the driving licenses.
