Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future
2% of the population above 40 years of age risks being affected by the
glaucoma disease, which, if not cured on time, could create total
blindness.
On the International Day against Glaucoma, the surgeons in the Tirana University Hospital have distributed information for raising awareness among the population about the danger of this disease.
According to the doctors, chronic glaucoma is the most common disease that has no symptoms in the early phases, in which the sight loss starts.
The damage is progressive, slow and blinds the eyes permanently. The most affected people are those above 40 years of age, who have had a glaucoma history in the family, suffer from diabetes, myopia, long-sightedness and artificial hypertension.
