The Fier Municipality project for rehabilitating the green spaces near
the Mosque, and rebuild the central park of the city, has been opposed
by land owners who demand compensation with the current market price.
Some protests even escalated to violent confrontations with the police.
Residents say they own property titles, but the Legislation Director in Fier, Esmeralda Kapllani, said for Top Channel that this doesn’t appear in any document of the Municipality. “If they want compensation, they need to introduce the necessary documentation for expropriation”, she said.
The works at the Fier Central Park are expected to last for two years, in 2.3 hectares area.
