Our supermarkets sell expired food products. Sometimes we can find them
even in the most well known supermarket brands, but this phenomenon is
much more emphasized in the suburbs and smaller towns.
The National Food Authority explains that only in one day, the inspectors found 400 kg of expired products in 113 sellers.
“We seized 400 kg of expired food products and fined two business operators that have not respected the deadlines of the tasks given in our previous inspections. We appeal the Albanian consumer, whose safety is the purpose of our job, to keep helping us in our mission by expressin their concerns on our official web page”, declared Ariela Struga, director of Risk Management and Inspection Coordination.
The expired products are mainly sub products of meat or sweet garments. Another problem is the lack of labels in Albanian language, leaving the citizens without being able to know what he is consuming. On the other hand, the storage facilities of the food products do not have protection against rodents and insects. The inspection of the National Food Agency focused on 12 districts.
