Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future Road accident experts think that the police did not make public their
opinion for the most important data of the tragic accident.
According to them, by concealing these data, they show a lack of transparency. The tachograph, if it was in the bus, the certification of the driver and the production year of the bus, are some of the details that would shed some light on the cause of the tragedy.
Mithat Tola, expert of road safety:
We did not speak about any professional ability certification, if he had passed the training according to the latest Interior Ministry instructions, which are obligatory based on the EU conventions. The vehicle had completed the obligatory control this April, but the age of the vehicle remained a mystery. We all know that between the formalities for receiving a stamp and the real technical inspection, there is a very wide gap. I don’t want to raise suspicions about this fact, but we needed more transparency about the production year of the bus.
Bert Koxhaj, road safety expert: Who is this driver? When did he get the driving license? What is his CV for the recent years? Was he a correct driver? Did he have violations? They could have shown the tachograph report, for the bus speed.
According to them, the day of the tragedy has had serious problems, even for the way how it was managed, and the declarations seemed to try and avoid the responsibility of the state.
Bert Koxhaj: I think that some government representatives should have not rushed and mention that the road segment is repaired, and I don’t think that that road is without problems. We know that the possibility of having accidents is evident. Accidents have happened even before in that part of the road, and for this reason we need guard rails and higher concrete barriers, in order to avoid such a catastrophe.
Mithat Tola: The first thing that the Police director did not say, is what measures will be taken tomorrow. What will the traffic police do? Will they place a police agent in every kilometer? They should start speaking about control measures, having a review within the week and isnpect all public transport vehicles and all companies that have been licensed for this service.
But what troubles them is about what will happen later. Expert Tola says that the police will try to blame the driver and everything will be forgotten very soon. He appealed the inter-Ministerial committee, which has not gathered to discuss the problems for many years. While expert Koxhaj expressed his concern for how such buses do not have the attention of the police.
