Experts oppose leasing monuments

The representatives of the Cultural Heritage Forum have asked the MPs of
the Media Commission and Education to stop the Ministry of Culture
initiative, which aims to give the Culture Monuments in Concession.

Artan Lame underlined that the damages that can be caused to these monuments are unrecoverable.

“If the damage is made, there’s no return. It is absurd to use the existing legislation to lease them”, Lame declared.

Lame valued that this initiative is expected to start with the Lezha castle, one of the most important for the Albanian heritage and when the archeologists should make further diggings.

“Some of the monuments that have been leased have had no state control. Before giving others, let us take under control the ones that have been given so far. This is a negative example and with a great danger”, Lame underlined.

“It is impossible to build over the ruins, and the Albanian map of 2007 says that we must be careful and preserve this important principle”, declared the expert Lorenc Bejko.

According to archeologist Iris Pojani, this process has been closed in many European countries since 2005, and it violates the law of cultural heritage.

The Ministry of Culture wants to include in this initiative more than 40 cultural heritage monuments, while it has shown that they cannot control the ones that have been leased so far, such as that of Petrela.

Cultural heritage experts underlined that the Albanians cannot be served only with food and fastfood in the places that should transmit culture and history.
