Serbia accused Kosovo for the recent conflicts between both
countries. The Serbian argument is that Kosovo has not established the
Association of Serbian Communes.
“I am not optimistic that there will be any change. Prishtina is creating destabilization with a series of incidents, with the purpose to not create the Association”, said Milovan Drecun, from the Council for Kosovo, at the Serbian Parliament.
Mogherini is expected to visit Mitrovica, where the park on the Iber bridge is still being built to divide both communities. The purpose of Mogherini’s visit is to encourage peace in the divided city.
Analyst and professor Behlul Beqaj said that the EU requests will be very clear, but without any major effect.
“There is a climate in Kosovo which has turned into a serious obstacle for the creation of the Association. While Serbia has given promises that don’t go well with the executive competences of the Association”, Beqaj said.
Kosovo Serbs have also boycotted institutions, while Mogherini will try to make the process continue, despite past tensions.
