Officials of the European Council support the government’s decision to close betting shops and casinos.
Christos Giakoumopoulos, General Director for Human Rights and Rule of Law said for Top Channel that the decision also helps the prevention of money laundering, a topic for which there will be a seminary in Tirana.
“Gambling is one of the riskiest industries for the economy, not only in Albania. The extreme measures that were taken this year are welcome”, Giakoumopoulos said.
The EC official added that Moneyval, the European Council mechanism, is monitoring the performance of Albanian institutions for the money laundering and terror funding issues, and the report will be published soon.
