Three days after the White House adviser for National Security, John Bolton, made it clear that the USA will not try to stop a territory exchange between Kosovo and Serbia, if Prishtina and Belgrade find an agreement, he underlined that no one in the EU should become an obstacle.
The declaration of the European Commission Spokesperson, Maja Kocijancic, keeps the same line. She also underlined that no one in the EU will become an obstacle if Kosovo and Serbia find a mutual agreement.
Kocijancic said in a press release that the European Commission values that Kosovo and Serbia need some space to dialogue about normalizing their relations.
“The EU cannot comment about the possible elements of that agreement, but we will keep working intensively with all parties to reach an all-inclusive and stable deal, with the support of the international community”.
She was careful to underline that a stable deal means a real solution, based on international rights.
When asked by journalists if Brusels accepts the border changes after a possible territory exchange, Kocijancic said that she wouldn’t like to go into speculations and details in this last phase of the dialogue.
The press office of the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, Federica Mogherini, declared this Saturday that they will intermediate the next meeting between Kosovo President Thaci and his Serbian counterpart, Vucic, on September 7th.
