The “gymnich” meeting format is an unofficial meeting in which the 28
European Ministers talk in front of diplomats and councilors for key
Foreign Policy and Security issues.
“Without reinforcing our foreign borders, without showing that we can control our borders, we will always have problems within the EU”, said Johannes Hahn, EU Commissioner for good neighboring and Accession Negotiations.
The refugee crisis and the security consequences in the EU were the focus of the Amasterdam meeting, where the Dutch Presidency gathered the Foreign Ministers of the EU and member countries.
They agreed on the declaration that the increased cooperation with Balkan countries and Turkey should be used for consolidating the integration reforms and their advancement to the EU.
This is the first meeting of this format for the year, and the same topic followed the two informal meetings of 2015.
