EU concerned for disabled people

The EU Commission for the rights of blind people appeals the government
to respect the rights of this category, as one of the 12 EU priorities.
If they deteriorate, the situation for Albania’s EU integration is
complicated.

Philip Chazal, Chairman of this Commission, raised his concerns for the specific law amends and delayed payments, which have damaged their rights.

“The economic crisis shouldn’t affect disabled people and the payment they need to survive. We appeal the government to fulfil their commitment and pay the disabled people. The disabled people suffer in silence, because their voice is not heard. This is intolerable. The government should commit and improve their situation and their rights”, declared Philippe Chazal, the Chairman of the Commission for Blind People Rights.

Speaking on behalf of the EU President of Blind People and the President of the European Forum of Disabled People, Chazal valued the decision taken by the Parliament to ratify the UN Convention about the rights of disabled peopel. On the other hand, they appeal the public institutions to undertake all necessary actions to implement the laws in force and improve them in full accordance with the UN convention and the rights of disabled people.
