Ethnic race for Kercova

14/03/2013 00:00

For the first time in Kercove, an Albanian candidate has most chances to
win the local elections of March 24th and lead the city of 60.000
residents.

The victory of the Albanian candidate might come after the new territorial division of the city, to which were attached four rural communes of Albanian population.

This has changed the ethnic structure of the city now with an Albanian majority.

Fatmir Dehari is running for the Democratic Union for Integration party. He also has the support of the PDSH and RDK, two other Albanian parties. Dehari is optimistic and says that he will repair the injustices made to the Kercova Albanians through the centuries.

The race in Kercova will be ethnic, and all the Macedonian parties are also running with only one candidate, to avoid letting the Municipality to an Albanian candidate.

Due to the importance of this race, many immigrated Albanians are expected to return home and vote.
