Six days after his last visit as Prime Minister, Recep Taip Erdogan is
returning for an official visit in Albania, this time as President of
Turkey. He gave two messages during the meeting with the Albanian
counterpart, Bujar Nishani; one for Albania, for increasing the trade
exchanges with his country, and the second for Macedonia. The Turkish
President who arrived in Albania with 120 Turkish businessmen, spoke
about doubling the trade exchange with Albania, which is currently 430
million USD.
After a meeting behind closed doors, Nishain and Erdogan held a press release in which they valued the relations between our countries, encouraged cooperation in other sectors and improvement in the sectors it is already present.
President Nishani thanked Turkey for the constant support of the Albanian people in the region and valued the signing of the security cooperation agreement between Tirana and Ankara.
Nishani mentioned the Kumanova events, appealed for transparency and stopping the efforts to turn this isolated incident into an interethnic conflict. He asked the implementation of the Ochrid Agreement.
The objective is that the trade exchange between Albania and Turkey reach 1 billion USD in the future. For this reason, Nishani asked a deeper cooperation. The Albanian President valued the role of Turkey in the building of the TAP pipelie.
The Turkish President declared that the trade relations between the two countries must develop quickly, hoping that the 1 billion USD trade exchange will be reached as soon as possible.
As for Kumanova, Erdogan declared that the conflicts should be resolved through dialogue.
“There are people in Balkan who want to damage peace and security, that’s why we pay a lot of attention to peace, stability and the welfare of Balkan. We want that the irritations created in Macedonia will be resolved through dialogue, and that the Ochrid agreement guarantees peace. Turkey has suffered terrorism, and we know the price it comes with. We don’t want this price to be paid by different people, regardless of their religions or ethnic affiliations. We must have a clear idea of who benefits from terror, although terror makes everyone lose. We have seen the tragic deaths in the Mediterranean and the stance of Eruope to them. As an EU candidate country President, I must say that we have suffered this in the past too. Can we be insensible to these poor people? Shouldn’t richer countries produce a solution for these people?”, Erdogan declared.
Erdogan and Nishani will be at the joint business forum between Albania and Turkey this afternoon.
