EP: Political cooperation to continue

The European Parliament has valued the political consensus that has been
reached recently in Albania and has appealed the Albanian political
class to continue this way.

In the session for Albania, the Head of the Delegation for Balkan, Eduard Kukan, declared that only the implementation of the reforms can bring progress in the EU integration process.

“I appreciate the dialogue and the political cooperation. Albania is changing positively on the verge of the 100th year of independence. Only the implementation of the reforms brings the progress”, Kukan declared.

On their behalf, the Albanian representatives promised to continue the consensus for the main issues, among which is the immunity removal, which was mentioned by the Minister of Integration, Majlinda Bregu.

“Albania has a new consensus spirit. We are committed for the political dialogue to continue. The government asked the immunity removal for high rank officials and the immunity removal cannot stop progress”, Bregu declared.

While the Foreign Minister, Edmond Haxhinasto, focused on the cooperation between parties for passing laws that require qualified majority.

“The qualified majority laws have been approved with consensus, such as the Ombudsman. With consensus we will also approve a series of other laws”, Haxhinasto declared.

The Head of the Albanian diplomacy ranked the priorities of the political class, such as war against corruption and the conclusion in time of the electoral reform.

The Socialist MP, Ditmir Bushati, at the same time chairman of the Parliamentary Commission for integration, emphasized the need of cooperation between the opposition and the majority.

“The Parliament needs consensus to function, he declared.
