Environmentalists request 3-year moratorium for HPP construction

A civil group for the protection of rivers have asked the Albanian
government to stop the construction of hydropower plants and cancel all
licenses given so far in protected areas.
“During this time of interruption, all the current permits should be reviewed”, says Emirjeta Adhami, INCA expert.
Environmentalists say the Prime Minister has promised that the Vjosa river wil receive the National Park status, which means that the HPP works for Kalivac, Langarica and Benca will be reviewed.
They specify that a moratorium would improve the situation in Valbona, Korab and Tomorr.
