Environmental disaster in Lushnje, with dump site close to residential areas

The dump site for the residents of Lushnja was created in 1980, when the field was deserted and the city didn’t have more than 50,000 citizens.

But the demographic changes that took place after the ‘90s increased the population number and the consumption as well.

Today, the closest house to the field is just 20 meters away, and the place is still a dump site that doesn’t process structures. This puts in danger not only residents, but also pollutes the entire city that now counts 90,000 residents.

The Municipality says that the city creates 1800 tons of waste each month, which is dumped there.

With the creation of the Fier landfill, Lushnja would be able to rehabilitate the site and turn it into a green area.

Top Channel has treated the severe situation at the Grabjan village several times.

The Divjaka municipality held a meeting a few months ago with the promise that there will be a solution soon, but the intervention from the municipality has not happened so far.

Officials have declared behind cameras that they the solution doesn’t seem to be very close.
