Emigrants’ children returned at border

Days after the Greek police returned 30 families and their children from
the Kakavija Customs, while they were travelling to their homes in
Greece, the Greek Police started not allowing other families who
according to them have problems with their children’s birth
certificates.

The Kozani Police which covers the border with Albania says that there is an order by the Greek Ministry to not allow people who have not corrected their birthplace names in documents, in which toponyms should be written in Albanian and English.

Officials from this ministry say that they have no responsibility for this problem, since the Albanian institutions have been warned for more than one year to change the toponyms that are written only in Albanian, against the international rules.

The return of the Albanian families has caused great concern among the Albanian community in Greece. In most of the cases their children are losing days at school, while parents have nowhere to send them in Albania and return to their jobs.

Hundreds of emigrants have expressed their concern at Top Channel’s office in Greece for this problem.
