The case of the Albanian patient named “B.M”, to whom the doctors in the
Savona Hospital removed the left kidney, the only working one, has
ended up at the Prosecution.

The 45-year-old who suffered from a spleen cyst had traveled from Albania to undergo a surgery intervention at the Urologic Chief of this hospital. But the patient left the operation room only with the right kidney, which was dysfunctional for many years and completely atrophied.

If he will not receive a kidney transplant, the Albanian patient will have to live his entire life in paralysis. The doctors argue that the kidney removal was indispensable, together with some part of the pancreas, but the relatives are not convinced. The health of their family member deteriorated due to a hemorrhage. For this reason, they submitted a suit at the Prosecution.

This week was published in Italy the report related with the doctors’ errors and health system problems. The numbers are concerning. Only in the last two years, the Special Parliamentary Commission has registered 470 similar cases. In 329 cases the patient has lost his life, in 223 other cases there are possible mistakes of the doctors, while 106 other cases are related with the different structural deficiencies.
