The Elbasan Explosive Factory in Mjekes, Elbasan, could eliminate the
ammunition of the entire region, if the Albanian government will agree
with the interested parties.
This idea was brought by the Ministry of Defense, NAMSA representatives and local leaders in Elbasan.
Dave Nautrov, the NAMSA director from Luxembourg, declared that the Mjekes Plant is a very important asset with the experience that it has created, and it can be used further, but it is up to the politics to make such a decision.
The Deputy Minister of Defense, Ekrem Spahia, declared that in the first semester of 2013, the plant will eliminate all excessive ammunition of the country.
He also added that the Ministry, in cooperation with international companies, will start cleaning the contaminated areas from excessive ammunition.
