The bad weather that has covered the entire Europe is risks putting the
Balkan region in a severe energy crisis, and Albania is one of the most
endangered states.

The network is overcharged, due to the high level of consumption, and some critical junctures have failed. The governments of the region are undertaking extreme measures for guaranteeing electricity to their citizens.

Bulgaria, as one of the biggest exporters in the region, declared that they will interrupt the export temporarily, while Serbia declared that their network will not be used as transit, in order to offer all capacities to their domestic demand.

The Serbian network is key to the energy traffic in the entire region. Their government has declared the extraordinary situation until the end of the month, in which they will not allow energy to be transmitted through their network to other countries.

This decision is endangering many Balkan countries, especially Albania, Kosovo, Macedonia and Montenegro. Since the domestic reserves are in their lowest levels in Albania, the energy import is covering almost half of the consumption.

In these conditions, the limitations have not only increased the cost, but are also threatening with an energy crisis.
