Electoral reform delay

The Civil Society appealed for more responsibility from the political class for completing the electoral reform.

Former Presidents Alfred Mojsiu and Rexhep Meidani criticized the Electoral Reform Commission, declaring that the deadlines are not respected and that there is a lack of will by the political parties to find a right solution for the important political obligations.

Former President Moisiu underlined the need to reform the Central Election Commission.

“We understand that the majority could find itself comfortable with the current law, but we must not agree with it. If there will be no adequate solution to this situation, then it remains to ask ourselves: Is it worthy to vote, when the result is set through the ugliest ways. The reform of CEC is very important. This significant electoral institution must be completely independent, and not commanded through telephone by the party interests. This problem was raised in the elections of 2011, but unfortunately it was avoided not only by the representatives of the Albanian policy, but also by the international institutions”, former President Mojsiu declared.

“The electronic voting in big cities could be online and for this we have the model of the banking system. These services have had no complaints if there has been electricity or not. I don’t think that this electronic ballot count can cause big troubles and I don’t share the same opinion with the OSCE-ODIHR”, declared the former President, Rexhep Mejdani.

The OSCE Ambassador asked the Commission to complete the suspended issues as soon as possible.

“I would urge the political leaders to find an agreement as soon as possible for the main suspended cases, the electoral administration, the post-electoral complaints, the improvement of the ID verification and counting procedures. The OSCE-ODIHR verifications should be fulfilled for showing the much wanted political will”, Wollfarth declared.

Wollfarth invited the Civil Society to exert pressure over politics to realize the Electora Reform on time.
