Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Presidential election has turned into an object of debates between the opposition and majority.
The head of the Socialist Parliamentary Group, Gramoz Ruci, accused Berisha of not becoming part of the discussions, but preparing the next diversion. Berisha declared that the Democratic Party has the necessary capacity for producing a decent President.
The Socialist Parliamentary Group leader, Gramoz Ruci:
“According to the Constitution, today was the last limit for thee parliamentary procedure, and we have no political process. The opposition appealed you through a letter, and you keep answering that the President will be a Democratic Party figure. You do not agree with the consultations and processes, and you want to do it only formally. This is why the opposition leader has invited you. Most of the parties, even in the majority, have met him and they are waiting for you to hear them. Stop the demagogy with the next diversion against the opposition MPs, saying that we see ourselves as president or that we don’t vote each other. We have the capacities for that job, but we have a political philosophy and position. We declared that we want to elect the President of Albania, not the President of the Democratic or Socialist parties.
Prime Minister Sali Berisha: As regards the presidential election, the procedure is open today, according to the Constitution. I am not here for show, but for a negotiable and constitutional process, as I have declared, and this is where I stand. I guarantee you that this will be my dedication in this process. I don’t keep the cliché of the enemy or demon. I have declared and I still declare the reason why I am doing this, because the Democratic Party has personalities that are very able to serve to the country with their dedication. But certainly, the country comes first. Do you expect me to propose a Socialist persinality? This is your duty, not mine. I am not making the hypocrite; I am saying what I think. This is a negotiable and constitutional process. If you want it this way, we can sit in Parliament even today. The leadership gives the mandates to the Democratic Party representatives not for show, but for negotiations.
