Electoral College rules in favor of “89 EAZs”

The Electoral College accepted the proposition of the Central Election
Commission (CEC) for dividing the country in 89 Electoral Administration
Zones (EAZs).

The session was held after the Democratic Party (DP) filed a request to divide the map into 100 EAZs.

The cases ended up at court after the Socialist Party (SP) commissioners opposed the DP proposition at the CEC.

CEC initially proposed 76 EAZs, which was supported by SP. But a second proposition increased the number at 89, while the DP asked for 100.

The opposition argued that this doesn’t respect the legal request that EAZs should have equal number of voters and that the population increase doesn’t justify the increased number of EAZs.

The DP filed a complaint at court, asking that the Electoral College should make the EAZ division. But the Electoral College ruled that this is an exclusive competency of CEC.

The debates held at CEC in the last days of 2012 were harsh and caused only chaos.
