Electoral College rejects CEC

Electoral College rejected the ballot paper template the Central Election Commission approved for the May 8th local elections.

The decision came after Socialist Party’s request for its retraction, since the Central Election Commission (CEC) did not vote it with a qualified majority, as the Election Code provides, but only with the four votes of the governing party representatives.

SP bases this request on two arguments: first, in the ballot papers that CEC approved and the Electoral College (EC) rejected, candidate Basha of the Democratic Party had the insignias of all coalition parties, but this was not the case with candidate Rama of the opposition and his 23 parties that form the “Coalition for the Future”.

With the second complaint, SP requested that the names of the municipal council’s candidates for “Alliance for the Future” should be listed on the ballot paper before the “Alliance for the Citizen”, because of the alphabetical order of the initials.

Electoral College adjourned the processing of these two points for April 18th, considering that the rejected ballot paper will be discussed and CEC will assign another one. If CEC will agree with the SP requests, the Electoral College decision will be unnecessary.
