Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Albanian President, Bujar Nishani, met for the first time with the
heads of the Parliamentary group leaders for the consulting tour that
will determine the Election Date.
The President met all of the political representatives with 60 minutes of distance from each other.
The first meeting was with the head of the majority parliamentary group, Astrit Patozi. After 60 minutes he met the Socialist one, Gramoz Ruci. Then Lefter Koka represented the Socialist Movement for Integration, Fatmir Mediu the Republican Party, Vangjel Dule the United for Human Rights Party and Shpetim Idrizi the Party for Justice, Integration and Unity.
The only Parliamentary Party that was missing was the New Democratic Spirit, which was created this year and is represented in Parliament by Gazmend Oketa.
Besides the official courtesy and photos in front of the cameras, the participants gave no official declarations about the meetings. Credible sources say that the two bigger parties have held the same position about the elections’ date. Based on the Constitution, there are two possible dates when the general elections could be held: June 23rd and June 30th.
The Democrats, the Socialists and the Socialist Movement for Integration agree to appoint June 23rd as the day when the elections will be held. For the Socialists, this is a more favourable date for ensuring a larger participation and asked the head of the state to declare it as soon as possible, so that the Central Election Commission can find the necessary time to prepare the electoral infrastructure. Since the bigger parties now are agreeing about June 23rd, which is also supported by the OSCE, at least in principle, the parties will not oppose have no objections when the President will announce it.
The President has just closed the meeting with the European Union Ambassador, Ettore Sequi.
