Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Socialist MP, Damian Gjiknuri, listed a series of concerns that the
Socialist Party notes after the announcement made yesterday by the
Deputy Prime Minister, Ferdinand Poni, regarding the statistics of the
electoral list.
“No data has been made transparent on this point. The verification and cleaning of this data is directly related with the electoral climate, and this is one of the basic obligations taken by the Albanian government for improving the electoral list”, Gjiknuri declared.
Another concern declared by Gjiknuri is related with the notification of electors about their voting centre, an obligation of the electoral code that according to him has not been implemented, although this should have been finished by now, according to him.
“The number of electors who do not have a correct address is almost 500.000, as Mr.Poni confirmed by clearly violating the ODIHR recommendation after the elections 2011, which asks the Albanian authorities to increase transparency with the voters’ list and improve the problems that were noted. The Ministry and local authorities should increase their efforts to guarantee that all electors will have a clear address code”, Gjiknuri declared.
All these problems, according to Gjiknuri, make believe that the government is undermining the trust and the political agreements for holding elections of European standards.
“Refusing transparency and not reacting for the serious problems made present in this declaration show strong shadows of doubt on the government’s will to implement the law and their political commitments”, Gjiknuri declared.
