At least 500 residents in Tregan commune, Elbasan, are living in full darkness and drought.

The reason is because in the last two months there were stolen three power transformers that provided electrical energy and that powered aqueduct pumps for the area. According to the head of the commune, Behar Tashi, one of the transformers was stolen one week before the local elections, while the two others were stolen in a two-day distance from each other.

The head of the commune has notified CEZ Company and the police. The residents are concerned for the fact that they are lacking the basic needs, such as electrical energy and drinking water.

The residents take water from private wells or water sources around the area. Non-official sources from CEZ branch in Elbasan say that they are not going to install a new transformer any soon, since the police is doing nothing for preventing thefts. According to the same source, the Company has suffered great financial damages by the theft of power transformers.
