Elbasan, hundreds hectares of forests burned

The fires that have been intentionally lit by the residents in rural
areas have destroyed considerable areas of forests. According to the
Forest Director in Elbasan, Luan Duzha, two hectares of forests have
been destroyed only this year in his district.
According to Duzha, intentional fires are stimulated by the government’s instruction to plant fruit trees, mainly nut trees, causing considerable damages. There have been 7 fires only during 2012, while hundred of hectares were burnt in the last year.
But for avoiding these abuses, the residents who claim to plant fruit trees and who want to profit from the subvention schemes at the Directory of Agriculture, will not be allowed to exploit their trees if they will have burned the area around.
Duzha appeals the residents to not provoke fires, or they will be prosecuted and the burned areas will not be exploited financially by them.
