Hospital wastes in Elbasan are being dumped at the city’s dump site,
although the law categorizes medical wastes from other wastes, requiring
an isolated management. However, the Elbasan hospital dumps them in the
open, at the urban wastes.
The environment specialist, Beqir Kila, denied the fact by declaring that the phenomenon doesn’t exist.
Meanwhile, the hospital wastes are still on Elbasan’s dump site. In fact, the city of Elbasan has an equipment for their management, and the regional environmental agency has sent a verification group.
The urban waste dump site in Elbasan is an ecological bomb. It is completely open and the wastes are not recycled. In sunny days they are burned by creating a very toxic cloud of smoke.
