The Institution of Statistics published the inflation data for this
year, and said that the sector with most increased prices is that of
education, due to the higher attendance to the private sector.

People now don’t spend most of their income in food, but in education and healthcare.

The annual inflation for January marked 1.5%, staying far from the objective of the Bank of Albania, which has a targeted inflation of 3%.

INSTAT says that prices in the education sector have increased with 4.8%, foods and non-alcoholic beverage with 4.3%, alcoholic and tobacco, 3.3%.

The biggest price drop was noticed in shoes and clothing, with -3.7%, transportation with -2.5%, and health with -1.6%.

On the same day, INSTAT said the group of consumption goods that serves for measuring inflation has changed. The weight that food takes in a family budget has dropped in 2015 when compared with 2007. Meanwhile, the enlargement of markets such as the private education and private health, have burdened the pockets of Albanian families.

According to INSTAT, the food group has 66 new articles and six others have been removed.
