The Albanian Bank reported that the private sector economic evaluations
were optimistic for the last trimester of 2012, changing this way the
negative tendency that had been going on for several trimesters.

According to the bank, the economic sensitivity indicators that measure the business and individual perception on the economic situation have improved with 6.5% for October, November and December 2012. The bank says that the tendency was overthrown by the positive expectancies of businesses, while consumers appeared more pessimistic.

Increased business optimism has been especially strong in the service sector. The confidence index improved by 9.7%, while in the industry, this indicator increased by 1.2 percent, mainly as a result of increased domestic and export demand.

Crisis in the construction sector continues to inject pessimism. According to the Bank of Albania, the confidence indicator in Construction deteriorated by 5.6 percent in the fourth quarter, reaching another historic minimum, now 34 percentage points below the long-term average.

The consumer confidence index fell by 3.2 percent, due to their negative results on financial situation and economic performance, although the overall individual level of optimism remains around its multi-year average. However, even with this general improvement of the private sector economic sensitivity, again, this indicator remains at an historic lowest level, about 17.2 percent lower than the average of the last ten years.
